About Colleen

Hi! I'm Colleen Safka - thank you for visiting my site!

My work experience began in public education, where I quickly determined that I had a high level of interest in incorporating technology into the curriculum and content that I developed, increasing engagement and knowledge retention in my learners. Over time, colleagues would approach me to learn the "ins and outs" of hardware and software to make them more successful in the classroom. I went on to develop and facilitate instructor-led trainings, micro learning videos, and job aids for staff and community stakeholders and eventually earned my second Master's Degree in Educational Technology, and earned the "Innovator of the Year" award in my district.

One day while searching YouTube for a video, I came across a tutorial by Devlin Peck and I went down an instructional design rabbit hole - videos, podcasts, websites, books, you name it... I was hooked! I read, watched, and listened to every piece of content I could and decided instructional design and eLearning development was for me.  I joined the Instructional Design & Online Learning Development Academy, found a volunteer client that turned into my first freelance opportunity, and have been hungrily upskiling ever since!

When I'm not designing, you might find me sipping a self-crafted latte on my porch, pondering my passion for Disney trips, watching the English Premier League, or hitting a good old fashioned rock and roll show.
